Hawaii Youth Transportation Council Seeks Young Members to Shape Future Policies
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Are you aged between 11 and 24? Here’s your chance to influence Hawaii’s transportation policies and contribute to the state’s ambitious goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2045.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation has officially opened applications for the very first ‘Hawaii Youth Transportation Council’. This council aims to empower young voices in shaping transportation initiatives across the state.
Comprising approximately 20 members, the council will convene for its inaugural meeting in December. The establishment of this council is part of a settlement agreement reached in June 2024, following a lawsuit filed by a group of keiki climate activists against the state for its inadequate efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Members of the council will have the opportunity to provide valuable insights and recommendations on various transportation decisions, which may include the transformation of road lanes into dedicated bikeways and pedestrian pathways.
Don’t miss this opportunity! The application deadline is set for November 25. For any inquiries or further information, feel free to reach out via email at [email protected] or call (808) 587-2172.
