Increasing Popularity of Scooters Among Women in Twin Cities of Pakistan
Islamabad: The civil society has applauded the growing trend of women opting for scooters as a convenient mode of transportation in the bustling twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. This shift is largely attributed to their demanding schedules and the need for efficient mobility.
In an interview, Nihea Azmat, a student from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), shared her perspective, stating that not only students but also many working women have embraced scooters and bikes for their daily commutes.
Scooties, which are smaller and often designed in lighter colors to appeal to female riders, have gained popularity due to their affordability and the speed they offer for everyday tasks. Ziant, a working professional, emphasized this point, noting that these vehicles are becoming a staple for women navigating their busy lives.
Mehwish, an employee at a private bank, highlighted that over the past few years, the scooty culture has flourished among women, granting them greater independence on the roads. As a result, numerous companies have begun to cater to this rising demand by offering a variety of scooties tailored for female riders.
In urban areas across the country, an increasing number of young women are seen riding scooters, driven by their fast-paced lifestyles and the need for self-sufficient transportation. Ayub Malik, a civil society activist, remarked that scooties are not only cost-effective but also provide a swift means of travel to educational institutions and workplaces for women.
“Several brands have recognized this trend and have launched scooties specifically designed for girls in Pakistan. These user-friendly two-wheelers are becoming increasingly favored among college and university students,” he added.
