Public Input Invited on Proposed Amendments to the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan
Metro is inviting the public to submit comments or concerns regarding the proposed amendments to the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan (MTIP). All feedback should be directed to Summer Blackhorse by the deadline of 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27th.
The MTIP is a crucial document that outlines the funded transportation projects scheduled to utilize federal funds over the next four years. The current cycle is encapsulated in the 2024-27 Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program.
The proposed amendments include several significant updates:
New Funding for Portland Streetcar Extension: This amendment allocates funding for preliminary engineering on the Portland Streetcar Montgomery Park Extension project. The extension will cover 0.65 miles along 23rd Avenue to Roosevelt Street, looping back to 26th Avenue and Wilson Street. This project will include new tracks, stations, stormwater management systems, and up to 10 hybrid streetcars.
ADA Curb Ramp Construction: New funding has been designated for the construction of ADA-compliant curb ramps, ensuring accessibility for all community members.
Restoration of Electrical Components on I-5 Bridge: Funding has been reallocated to restore electrical components on the I-5 Interstate Bridge, ensuring they are permanently connected to their original locations.
Clackamas County Transportation Safety Plan Update: New funding will assist Clackamas County in updating its existing Transportation Safety Action Plan to align with the Safe Streets for All Action Plan requirements.
Reduction in Capital Funding for Public Transit: There will be a reduction in capital funding for urbanized area public transit services that cater to the unique needs of seniors and other transit-dependent populations.
Residents are encouraged to participate in this process and share their insights on these important transportation projects that will shape the future of our community.
